Update on Covid Precautions for Church Services

Following the move to Step 4 of the government’s roadmap, the Church of England has issued revised guidance for churches. They are urging caution in light of the rising case numbers which may exceed the previous two waves by the end of August/early September.

After consulting the PCC Rob has made the following decisions with regard to Sunday services:

  • We will resume congregational singing
  • We will continue social distancing.
  • We will continue with the mandatory wearing of face masks (unless medically exempt).
  • The communion cup will be made available as an option for any who wish to receive it.
  • We will not resume post-service refreshments just yet.
  • We will continue to live-stream all services to YouTube for those who prefer to watch from home.

All services will continue to be for all-ages together until September.

We will continue to use recorded music for the rest of the summer due to volunteer availability, but plan to reintroduce a live band in September.

We recognise that these guidelines will not please everyone. For some it will be too little and for others too much. However, we have sought to find a balance between the two vital biblical principles of freedom and love for our neighbour. These precautions will be reviewed at the end of August as we move into the Autumn Term.

People wishing to attend services will still need to book a place please. Those who are volunteering in the service or are unable to access internet at home do not need to book as places will have been reserved for them.

Please continue to pray for a safe and full return to worship and midweek activities at St. James.

Thank you
