Time to Think and Pray

Questions

  • What did Moses’ mother do to try to keep him safe?

  • Who found baby Moses in the river?

  • When he was old enough, where did Moses go to live?

Joseph's family, the Israelites, continued to live in the land of Egypt for many years. But after a while a new Pharaoh came to power in Egypt who hated them. He was very hard on God's people and made them his slaves. They worked all day, every day, and were treated very badly. The Pharaoh hated the Israelites because there were so many of them and he was afraid they would take over the land of Egypt. He decided to get rid of all the Israelite baby boys so that the Israelite family wouldn't grow any bigger. This was a horrible thing to do! When Moses was born, his mother was scared that Pharaoh would take him away, so she hid him for 3 months! When she couldn’t hide him any longer she made a plan to save him. She put him in a basket and put the basket in the river. Pharaoh’s daughter, the princess, came to the river and saw Moses in the basket! She knew that he must be an Israelite baby but she wanted to care for him instead of hurting him. Moses’ sister, Miriam, was hiding by the river and saw all of this happen. She asked the princess if she would like an Israelite woman to take care of the baby for her. The princess said, 'Yes', and Miriam brought Moses’ mother to look after him! She looked after her own son until Moses was old enough to be adopted by the princess and he go to live in Pharaoh’s palace.

It was a very dangerous time for the Israelites and God kept Moses safe from being hurt. He protected him and his family and Moses grew up safe in Pharaoh’s palace. God had great plans for Moses and we are going to hear more about those special plans next week!

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help us to follow you and to love you more each day. Thank you that if we are a part of your family, you will always be with us and will take care of us. Amen.
