Isaac and Rebekah

This session is about a man in the Bible named Isaac. Last week we learned about Abraham and his wife, Sarah. God called Abraham to become a part of his special family. and promised that he would have many children. God kept his promise and Abraham and Sarah had a baby even though they were very old. They named their baby Isaac. This week we are going to learn how Isaac grew up and met his wife, Rebekah. Let’s watch the video to see what happened:

Time to Think and Pray

Questions

  • What did Abraham send his servant to find?

  • What did the servant take with him on his journey?

  • What important thing did the servant do when he arrived?

  • Why is it important to pray to God?

When Isaac had grown up, Abraham wanted to find a good woman for him to marry. So he sent his servant to another town to find her. The servant took with him some camels and lots of presents, including two beautiful gold bracelets. When he arrived, he sat down by the well where women usually came to get water and he prayed. He asked God to help him find the right wife for Isaac. Even before he had finished praying, a woman named Rebekah came to get water from the well. The servant asked if she would get some water for him. Rebekah was so kind, she got water for him and for his thirsty camels too! The servant knew straight away that Rebekah was the woman that God had chosen to be Isaac’s wife. He gave her family gifts and asked if she would like to marry Isaac. She was very happy and returned with the servant to become Isaac’s wife. They praised God because he had answered their prayers.

It’s very important for us to pray to God too. We can pray to him when we are sad or scared and when we need his help. God loves it when we pray to him and he loves to help us! We can also talk to God when we are happy, and we can thank him for all the good gifts he gives us! God is always listening and loves us so much. What can you thank God for today?

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you that we can pray to you for help whenever we need it. Thank you that you love us and want to help us. Please help us to remember to pray to you more often and to love and follow you more every day. Amen.
