Jesus is Tempted

In the previous true story from the Bible we learned about the time when Jesus was baptised by John. God showed everyone that Jesus was his Son and the one he had sent to save the world. After Jesus was baptised, he went into the desert to be alone with God. He spent 40 days and nights fasting (not eating any food) and praying to God, his Father in heaven. Let’s watch the video to see what happened:

Time to Think and Pray

Questions

  • What wrong things are you tempted to do sometimes?

  • Do you find it easy or hard to say ‘No!’ and stop yourself doing wrong things?

  • What could you do to help yourself not give in when you are tempted?

Do you ever have to wait to eat your sweets? Maybe your Mum or Dad tells you to wait until after you have eaten dinner or until after you have finished your homework? It’s hard isn’t it? All you want to do is eat those sweets but you have been told not to! Maybe you think about secretly sneaking one? This is called being tempted. When you are tempted you really want to do something that you know is wrong. You can give in and do that wrong thing or you can say ‘No!’ and stop yourself. God wants us to have self-control. This means he wants us to be strong and say ‘No!’ to the wrong things that we are tempted to do. It makes God sad when we do wrong things and it gets in the way of us being his friends.

Jesus was tempted to do wrong things too. He was tempted to eat bread when he was supposed to be fasting, and to keep all the kingdoms and riches of the world for himself. Even though Jesus is perfect and never did anything wrong, he was still human and was tempted to do wrong things just like we are. But unlike us Jesus was perfect and never did anything wrong. In the desert Jesus remembered what the Bible said and didn't give in when he was tempted. He prayed, and God’s Holy Spirit helped him to have self-control! and to say 'No!'. When we find it hard to have self-control, we can pray to God and His Holy Spirit will help us too, because he loves us!

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you that when you were tempted you never did anything wrong! Thank you that you love us so much and want to be our friend. Please help us to have self-control and to say 'No!' when we are tempted to do wrong things. Amen.
