Moses and the Burning Bush

In the last session we heard about Moses and how God kept him safe as a baby. The Pharaoh’s daughter adopted Moses and he grew up living like a prince in Pharaoh’s palace! Moses could see that God’s people, the Israelites, were being treated very badly in Egypt and he didn’t like it. One day, Moses did something very wrong and ran away from his home. But God had very special plans for him. Let’s watch the video to see what happened:

Time to Think and Pray

Questions

  • Who did Moses marry?

  • Why do you think Moses didn’t want to go back to Egypt?

  • What were the two signs that God gave Moses to prove he was God?

Moses did something wrong and he was scared that Pharaoh would find out, so he left Egypt and ran away to a place called Midian. While he was in Midian, he met a man named Jethro and married one of Jethro’s daughter’s, Zipporah!  When Moses was quite a bit older, he saw a bush that was on fire. The bush had flames all around it but was not burning up! This was actually an angel of the Lord who had come to speak to Moses because God had a special job for him to do. God told Moses to go back to Egypt and tell Pharaoh to let his people, the Israelites, go. But Moses didn’t want to go back! He didn’t think he was the right person for the job and was afraid he wouldn’t be able to do it. So God gave Moses two signs. He told him to throw his staff on the ground and it became a snake! When he picked it up again, it turned back into his staff! Then he put his hand in his coat and when he brought it out it was diseased. But when he put it back into his coat and took it out again, it was healthy! God gave Moses these amazing signs to prove to Pharaoh that God is real and that he must be obeyed! God also told Moses that he could take his brother Aaron with him to Egypt to help him.

God's people the Israelites were very special to God. He loved them very much and had a special plan to use Moses to set them free from slavery in Egypt. God loves us very much too and has a special plan for everyone who follows him. He wants us to obey him, so that we can continue being a part of his family.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you that you love us very much and have special plans for us. Please help us to obey what you tell us to do so we can continue being your friends. Amen.
